We were able to speak with Nick Baldo about the company’s social media marketing strategy, and here’s what he had to say:
Which social media platforms do you currently use?
N: We currently are on Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, LinkedIn and YouTube.
What value, if any, has social media provided for your business?
N: Social Media has provided a forum for our company to post project progress while increasing awareness across the community. Our social media efforts have had no direct impact on revenue. As our company is quite new, we are simply trying to increase awareness and allow friends, family, and other fans to provide feedback.
Which social media platform works best for your business? Why?
N: Our WordPress blog has allowed us to share our experiences and new found expertise with the world. We write about the entire entrepreneurship process: from establishing the LLC, to rehabbing a home, to the general process of buying a home. Our followers have been able to follow our progress. All the while, we continue to establish ourselves as “experts” in the Western New York Real Estate Market. The increase in public perception will serve our company down the road.
How has social media impacted your business in terms of marketing and sales?
N: Social media has yet to provide a tangible revenue increase to our business. However, we continue to enhance our brand equity through consistent and honest social media marketing practices.
Do you have any advice for companies who are on the fence about social media?
N: Just start! Start by setting up a Facebook page or writing a blog. Try not to do too much at once. When we started, I wanted to have everything! That is too much to manage when you are just starting out. It’s better to do one thing well than to do a lot of things poorly. You might not see the tangible benefit to your business, but it is there. Simply sharing your expertise will increase your brand equity. Although your direct customers may not purchase because of your social media efforts, they may communicate with someone who will.
Is there any social media strategy that you would like to improve ordo differently?
N: I would like to increase the consistency in which I write blog posts. In this effort, I’ve decided that shorter, more frequent posts are more realistic than longer posts. I’ve scheduled 2 posts a week, added them to my calendar, and set reminders so that I am sure to get them done.
Nick has an excellent take on social media marketing practices for NY Home Solutions. It’s very smart for him to realize that it’s better to select a few social media sites to start out on, rather than creating company pages across the web. Additionally, it was nice to see that he is adamant about getting at least 2 blog posts up a week.
